No class this week. And exams coming. Nevermind. This post is dedicated to EVERYONE who was involved in designing, developing, instructing and evaluating this course, and all who took part (MY COURSEMATES YOOOOOO TESL babes I'm calling out to you guys) Thank you for the wonderful experience. I have stressed over this course, glad I took this course, hate myself a little for disliking this course (at first) and finally completed this course. It was a roller coaster ride, and I am so glad that I dedicated my time and energy to complete all the assignments, because I am the one who gained the most through this experience. Special thanks to Dr Fariza, the course coordinator and my tutorial lecturer who was so nice and warm and considerate! Busy woman with a big heart and a beautiful smile. Thank you for spending your time and catering to our educational needs, to contribute to our learning and especially for coordinating this course so well. That's the end of this blog. I hope you (reader) had a great time with me. Sorry if my language somehow insulted you or made you uncomfortable. Till we meet again.

Lalala. Graphic designs. We all know what attracts our attention and what repulse us, but we don't know what EXACTLY. Turns out visual designs depend on many things: space, line, surface/layout, 3D and 2D presentation. I have a taste for monochromes, minimalist designs. Some people like it loud, but the important thing here is how the information could be transferred through these graphics, so I am sure simple and neat is best. Choose simple serif fonts, words that have high contrast with the background, adequate spacing with harmonious design that doesn't scream LOOK AT ME!!!!!! in a bad way. I think this rule can be applied to any form of designing. Website, info graphics, PowerPoint presentations and so on. Focus on one aspect or element, which is the objective of your media/graphic, and paint around it. Even distance between letters or rows make a difference. IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: OUR AUGMENTED REALITY ASSIGNMENT IS DONE!!!!!! I cannot believe it!!!! Check it out here. Thousand Thanks to my groupmates Mei Lin, Pris and Miza!!! I love them so much. This is our baby. Shame I didn't take photo of the end product, a cute ring-bind booklet, but I hope Dr Fariza enjoys our little 'present'. I had a lot of fun making it with my friends, and THANK YOU DR, for helping us out with the technical problem which caused one of the videos to not be able to load, glad it's resolved now. Look at my video! I took such a long time to produce this, more than 3 hours. I am quite a perfectionist so I had to cater to every single detail. TADA!! These are my AR cards. I am really impressed that Animaker have so many fancy fonts and animations to suit all my needs!
Necrophobia is an anxiety disorder that is triggered when a person is surrounded by anything associated with death. Probably everyone has slight tendency of this phobia but I am sure it is normal, as we believe in spirits and ghosts and whatever that lurks in the darkness or hides under your bed. BOO! Hello week 11! Check out my cool Coggle that I made with my group mates! So, our inspiration... We wanted to make something different, fresh... So we landed on Phobias! We thought of teaching English, but it is so dull and plain in our opinion (but the other groups did a good job!) and instead of taking videos from the internet, we made our own using Animaker which is very much like Powtoon. I had so many fun making mine! We presented in front of the class, and am grateful to receive very constructive opinions from my lecturer Dr Fariza because she suggested that we add pronunciation clip to the videos so it would ACTUALLY be teaching people how to pronounce the words, and also to include a section for ways to overcome these phobias. Look forward to the end product yay!
Phew can't believe I survived this long. Today we tried out Aurasma, and I have never seen anything like this. I am so impressed! Good thing I'm under Dr Fariza cause she is so skilled and experienced in this groundbreaking technology. It is innovative and definitely one of the best ways to create instructional media. Can't wait to try it out and work on projects with my mates! The bubbly lecturer came in again today. To talk about video makers!! My experience in using animation video makers: there's a Chinese saying that goes "I bend my knees under your wind" which is basically saluting to this great invention. Everybody loves to watch a video, it moves, it talks, it is interesting. I never thought I'd be given the opportunity to learn about making videos, as much as I have seen them. I was never taught using these tools, technology, media. More and more burden on me to become a teacher: I must be master of many many things. But I am glad that I have learned about these things. Thank you for the lesson, cute bubbly lecturer En. Yusof. We're cool.
Shall I share what great job I have done on the open learning website!! Not to boast, but I really put my heart and soul into the completion of each and every single one of the assignments (you can check if you want, bet my name is smeared all over the page). Just kidding. This MOOC definitely is THE BEST! I always rejected trying new things, especially creating videos because they are simply so difficult! But I was proven wrong. Gosh, I had so much fun making those videos! You can watch them here
Anyway, Exams are coming and assignments are piling up. I hope I survive this semester. Fingers crossed. So... Started working on my eResume, used my code for pro version. IT IS AMAZING!! So many features, so many tools, so easy to use! Opted for a clean layout with simple information, and used landscape mode and the best thing is, it's FOLDABLE!!! Really proud of what I did huehue. Take a look here! Do tell me what you think about it, would appreciate any comments. Have a good one! I learned about "Proses Penilaian Media" (Media Evaluation Process) in lecture.
What I think about this is that, WOW! I didn't know so much work goes into choosing an instructional media and the processes that are involved in evaluating whether the media helped achieve the objective set by the instructor. Different stages play a role in different aspects of development and design of the instructional media, but to me, I think that evaluation by professionals would be the most difficult part of the evaluation process. It is hard enough to come up with ideas that are groundbreaking, but to be rejected plenty of times must be devastating, at least for me. When the concept is formed, everything else would fall in place. I have found that it is important to analyze the needs of students, such as their demographic background and their preferred ways of learning to be able to come up with the best instructional media. So hard to be a teacher nowadays. Hello there. The week after mid semester break. So I was in Thailand, didn't manage to do much of the Open Learning tasks. Class started late so I worked on a couple of the tasks. They are not easy. Read through some of my coursemates' posts and felt like their answers are so short, maybe I'm not used to being the less talkative one in class, I must win even if its online. Haha! Anyways, today focused on how to do my e-resume which I haven't started on yet, and I saw the examples of other's work. So brilliantly done and prettayyyyyy!!! I want mine to be like that. I have a rough idea for mine, not sure when I will be free to start working on it though. Haven't activated my pro version of the Piktochart yet. I want to do a one page, foldable resume, which minimalist design and maybe two-toned. Will update here when I'm done. Get your fingers crossed, diva passing through.
Today's tutorial was cancelled last minute. That's fine, I prefer to work at my own pace. So I went on to discover and start working on the assignments on the Open Learning website, the many modules under the course Teknologi dan Inovasi dalam Pendidikan. MOOC is a great way to learn! As I have experienced in year one, online learning is not unfamiliar to me, I can learn anytime, anywhere! Browsed through the tasks, watched the videos and answered the questions, this process really got me thinking a lot. Technology has changed our lives in so many degrees, sometimes even subconsciously. But I think things are changing for the better, I hope i can gain more and learn more throughout this course and the completion of all the projects! Instructional Design (otherwise known as ID) is the systematic and reflective process in converting teaching and learning theories in the planning of teaching materials, activities, information and evaluation. That's a lot of wording. It is the whole package, from planning to carrying it out all the way to the evaluation. Through this lecture I have learned about ASSURE, ADDIE, ARCS and Morrison, Ross and Kemp's ID Model which are useful for planning instructional approaches in the classroom. ADDIE stands for Analysis (problems, cause, audience and solution), Design (presentation, format, type, measurement), Development (generate materials), Implementation (delivery of instruction) and finally Evaluation (collect, process, analyze and interpret feedback). ASSURE
-Analyze learners -State standards and objectives -Select strategies, technology, media and materials -Require learner participation -Evaluate and revise ASSURE focuses on media selection, which highlights the importance of learner-centered instruction. ARCS -Attention -Relevance -Confidence -Satisfaction I particularly like this model because it really lets me know what to take into consideration when teaching: the learners have to know that they are learning something that is useful for them, hence they would be motivated to learn themselves. Morrison, Ross and Kemp (MRK) This is a very complex one, but it is beneficial because it does not require sequential order, you can alter it according to the students or content. It is a cognitive learning design model that helps teachers in instructional design to conduct lessons that allow learners to generate their own learning and connect information to form knowledge.
Hi, it's me again. So today I have learnt to embed links to my blog, it's so cool!
Get to my Facebook page to know what's going on ;D Had a lot of fun with my new Padlet account and left anonymous messages on my friends' Padlets (teehee!). Also attached is the introduction video of my TESL batch! We did this last year as well. The new one is WAY funnier! Oh and the document is my personal assignment I had done for Basic Wellness sports course on Anaerobic Exercise. Have a read through and enjoy your bumpy ride. Cheers.
En. Mohd Yusof is so cute. He was my lecturer in my first semester for Komputer dalam Pendidikan. He's so bubbly and always smiling. Anyways, today he introduced us to social medias that can be implemented in teaching and learning. Guess I never thought of Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest as platforms that I can use for T&L, but I know that the sky is the limit when it comes to technology. There are already so many useful apps that I can use for teaching in the future, this lecture definitely opened my eyes to the fact that we could use ANYTHING to teach. Cheerios.
First tutorial class. BRR. Was in this classroom in the first semester for another CITRA course, Komputer dalam Pendidikan. So our job is to do a Weebly account and our own personal website. I continued using my previous account and hid the pages of my last assignments. It is a lot of work. Not to badmouth anything but this course is quite time-consuming and soul-crushing *sobs*. Might be a bad idea to take full credit hours this semester. Anyways, I had changed the layout of my Weebly and tried to make it simpler. Didn't understand the differences of a blog and a page, but now I do! Wow. It must be cool when I show it to my future employer, not sure how far along the road that would be, I am not quite ready to show my flawed website to the world. Hiak hiak.. Today was a good day after all.
Never thought 21st century classroom would be part of my university experience, but now it seems like social media, video presentations and interactive online games are undeniably a huge slice of my education pie. Already exposed to various online tools and applications that ease learning through a course in Year one, PiktoChart is something I have heard of but never tried before. The layout is very similar to Canva, another online poster maker I am familiar with, but a coursemate told me it is more user-friendly and easier to operate. Tried out a few functions and scrolled through the templates, simply brilliant. Dr Fariza walked us through its elements quite thoroughly, and gave us a one-month free access to the pro version (THANK YOU!), I kept the link but would only activate it later, when it would be put to good use for my assignments close to the end of the semester. Ye who enter, a little treat from me - magic.piktochart.com/plans - good things are meant to be shared! Now lets talk about the lecture on TPACK. This is a very interesting topic, as it emphasizes the importance of Technological, Content and Pedagogical Knowledge not individually, but as a whole. All three elements work hand in hand to create the best effect: using the knowledge of technology (how to use and its importance in solving certain problems hindering learning) combined with teaching strategies (how students learn and classroom management) designed specifically based on the type of content (theories, concepts, ideas, etc) intended to be instructed to the learners. These skills are important especially in planning lessons, syllables or event proforma for courses. Thank you Dr Fariza for giving us such a meaningful learning experience, combined with all types of knowledge that enabled us to achieve our full potential through this course.
